General information only
The pages on this site describe common causes of home repair problems and typical ways to fix them. They are written for general information. Every house is different, and only an on-site look can confirm the cause of a problem and the right repair.
Not professional advice
Nothing here is legal, engineering, electrical, plumbing, structural, insurance or medical advice. For gas lines, electrical panels, new circuits, major plumbing, structural changes, roofing and similar work, use the appropriate licensed professional. Whether a task needs a license or permit depends on the work and the local rules, so check with the City of Rochester Bureau of Zoning and Permitting or the relevant state agency before you start.
Safety
Home repair carries risk. Older Rochester homes can contain lead paint, asbestos and hidden damage. If you suspect any of these, stop work and get testing or a qualified professional first. Do not attempt a repair that you are not trained and equipped to do safely.
Accuracy of sources
We cite public sources such as the City of Rochester, the New York State Attorney General, the EPA and the National Weather Service. Rules and figures change. We try to keep pages current, but we cannot guarantee that every detail is complete or up to date. Please confirm the current rules with the source.
No guarantee of results
Descriptions of repairs, timelines and outcomes are examples, not promises. Any warranty or guarantee on actual work is stated only in the written quote or agreement for that job.
